How to Make Homemade Thieves Oil From Young Living

Essential oils are a natural way to cure the body of various sickness and diseases that even some over-the-counter-brands cannot combat.  They are Mother Nature’s elixir to various holistic treatments, beautification rituals, aromatherapy and even DIY home cleaning solutions.

Not all essentials oils are created equal, as some are more potent than others, smell different and have their own unique set of benefits.  However, essential oils are not always ideal to use, alone, due to their potency levels, such as peppermint or rosemary oil, which should be diluted with a carrier oil, to avoid a painful intensity to the skin.

 Essential Oils in History

The idea of utilizing essential oils has been in practice for thousands of years, across various countries and cultures. Essential oils also allow for various medicinal and spa rituals that are still in practice today. It is even said that during the Black Plague, thieves would raid the bodies of those who died from the disease, but were able to fight off the contagious disease by dousing themselves with a high effective oil and that is, supposedly where the Young Living Thieves brand came into existence.

Essential oils are fun to experiment with and have the ability to create ranging scents and combinations that can have numerous cleansing effects for the mind, body and spirit.

Essential Oils for Antibacterial Use

The summer season is upon us, a time of year when bug bites, allergies, itchiness fro plants and sinuses are in high tide, essential oils are great for alleviating such symptoms.  Thieves oil, created by Young Living, is a powerful blend of various oils such as clove, rosemary, cinnamon bark and eucalyptus oil- all known for their antibiotic purposes and abilities to kill germs on contact.

However, you don’t have to spend a fortune to obtain a natural mixture that actually works and you can also make it at home, to recreate for those times when you need it most.

The Essentials

To get the most out of your Antibacterial Essential Oil Blend-like Thieves Oil, you will need:

  • 80 drops cinnamon clove bud oil
  • 70 drops lemon oil
  • 40 drops cinnamon oil
  • 30 drips eucalyptus oil
  • 20 drops rosemary oil
  • 20-40 drop additional oils of your choosing

Yes this is a lot of mixing and ingredients.  If you would like a simpler and low cost way to protect your self try an anti-bacterial oil.

The antibacterial Thieves oil will not only help to stave off illnesses and the like but adds an effervescent feel that will help energize you and uplift your mood.

To make the concoction:

  1. Add all of the oils into one used oil bottle or if you can, cobalt bottles are some of the best containers for holding essential oils.
  1. Shake before use.

For such mixes, it is best to use eucalyptus citriodora, over other types of eucalyptus plant oils, like eucalyptus globulus, which may be fatal if over-ingested.  You may even find that some mixtures are a too wear or too “hot”.  If so, simply adjust the proportions of the ingredients to find the scent and feel of your liking. Since this particular mixture is hot to the touch, it is always a good idea to dilute before applying to skin.
