10 Essential Oils Every Mom Needs

If you’ve spent any time on this site, then you know that I looooove essential oils.  They are incredible and truly help relieve various physical elements and also offer emotional support.  So if you are a new mama and just had a little one, you have to check out these ten essential oils every mom should have.  They will make your life much easier!

1. Lavender

Lavender is very gentle oil and often helps promote sleep. It can help with skin issues such as diaper rash, eczema, burns including sun burns, fevers, allergies and headaches. It also helps relieve growing pains and can be rubbed along your child’s jawbone for teething. Lavender also promotes calmness in new or stressful situations, and you can apply to a vaccine site before injection.


2. Frankincense

Frankincense is one of the most precious essential oils and you will notice by the price tag. It is an amazing immune system booster and sore throat helper. It is great for skin, scrapes, scars, swelling and other skin issues. It’s wonderful for calming and even asthma relief.

3. Melaleuca (aka Tea Trea Oil)

Melaleuca, also known as tea tree oil, helps with rashes and acne, and when combined with lavender is an extra aid in fighting diaper rash. It refreshes laundry, removes permanent marker, and provides relief for canker sores, allergies, and earaches. It’s also great for tooth and gum care.

4. Lemon

Lemon is energizing, an amazing cleaner for floors, laundry, counters, stubborn sticky residue, and mirrors. It helps with allergies, coughs, provides sore throat relief, digestive help and detox support. You can use as a fruit and vegetable wash and also as a bug repellent.

5. Peppermint

Peppermint aids tummy trouble, allergies, headaches and motion sickness. It’s a fever reducer, opens airways to breathe and cools itching. As if that wasn’t enough, it can be used as a spider prevention, cleaner, stimulate and energizes, and helps with studying, Warning: this is a hot oil, so dilute well with a carrier oil!

6. Fennel

Fennel increases lactation, relieves PMS and reduces swelling. It provides digestive help, alleviates chronic coughs, increases urination, and helps with diarrhea.

7. Basil

Basil helps increase lactation, relaxes muscles and fights depression. It is great for providing insect sting relief, helps with ear infections, can be used as a decongestant, and helps with gas.

8. Oregano

Oregano is a super strong antibiotic, and combats against any bacterial, viral infection or parasites. It also helps with constipation. Warning: this is a hot oil- dilute with a carrier oil to apply topically!

9. Roman Chamomile

Roman Chamomile aids in relaxation, helps sleep, and gives tension headache relief. It’s great for skin conditions (dry, chapped or irritated), teething relief, diaper rashes, and relieves stiff joints and tired muscles.

10. Immunity blend

Many oil companies make their own immunity blends (the most popular are OnGuard and Thieves) and they provide excellent daily immune support when applied on bottoms of feet. They also give sore throat relief, purify surfaces (think: bathroom!) or atmosphere by diffusing. Immunity Blends are amazing mold killers, and great to make your own toothpaste or laundry detergent.
